After School Program
We offer an after school program at no cost for eligible students. The school day and the after school program combine for a total of nine hours each regular school day.
After school programs provide a safe space for students to strengthen social and emotional skills, practice academic skills and increase language acquisition rates for English Learners.
All students in grades TK-6 who meet the following criteria are eligible for the after school program at their school at no cost:
- Homeless youth
- Foster youth
- Meet state income eligibility requirements
- English Learners
- Children of full-time San José Unified employees
Students who are eligible for the program will receive an invitation to register for the program.
Empire Gardens Elementary partners with Catholic Charities to staff the after school program.
We partner with Tabard Theatre, a local theater located in downtown San Jose, to offer two 8-week enrichment sessions after school right here at Empire Gardens—one in the fall and one in the spring. The program culminates in live performances by participating students at the end of each session.
This program is open to Kindergarten through 5th grade students and is free to all families. It promotes social skills, teamwork, language and speaking skills, self-esteem, and a love of the arts. It takes place right here at Empire Gardens, so no transportation is needed (except to pick up your child each day of the program as transportation is not provided).
