Absence Reporting

Attendance and participation in class are essential for students to discover their own greatness and get the most out of our educational programs. That’s why San José Unified monitors absences and tardies closely.

Each student’s attendance records are maintained in the district’s attendance monitoring system. This includes excused and unexcused absences, as well as the reason for the absence, and tardies. Parents can request a copy of their child’s report at any time.

Reporting an Absence

To report an absence, call the attendance line (408)-287-6368 and give the date and the reason for the absence. Please report absences as soon as possible, ideally on the date of the absence itself.

Tardy Slips

Arriving at school on time is important. When students arrive late, important instruction is missed. Students are considered tardy if they are not in class by 7:55am each day.

Students who are late to school must report to the office and receive a tardy slip.

Truancy

Letters are sent to parents whose children have three (3) unexcused absences or three (3) tardies of more than 30 minutes.

Chronically truant students may be referred to district’s Child Welfare and Attendance (CWA) officer.
